Enough about last year - here's what you can expect this year!!

Meducare Air Helicopter

This multi-million dollar helicopter will land at Lowes during the Expo.  It is outfitted with the best of emergency equipment, supplies, technology and personnel.  The pilot and crew will be available to show off this new addition to our community and answer any questions you have.  Be sure to stop by their exhibit to see night vision goggles!

Safe Kids Trident Area

 Child Seat Safety Checks
Do you have questions about your child's car seat? If so, you are not alone. Buckling up your child is one of the single most important things you can do to keep him or her safe.

Child safety seats, when correctly installed and used, reduce the risk of death by up to 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for children ages 1 to 4. They also reduce the need for hospitalization by 69 percent for children ages 4 and under.

However, it is known that approximately 70% of car seats are used incorrectly. Finding the right seat for your child, installing and using it correctly can be very confusing. That is why SAFE KIDS Trident Area Child Passenger Safety Work Group coordinates getting local nationally certified car seat technicians to participate in community events to answer questions and educate parents and care givers on how to install car seat in your vehicle correctly.

Charleston County EMS Special Operations Omega 1

Picture
This special operations vehicle is another one equipped with all things medical emergency.  Stop by and see what it contains and learn all about its contribution to our emergency medical community.  As with all other exhibitors, personnel will be on scene to answer all your questions.

JIFD Fire Safety House

Fire Safety House at public event.
Children and adults can experience how smoke behaves and learn the proper way to exit a home that is on fire.  The training includes proper cooking habits in the kitchen and the correct way to make a 911 emergency phone call.  Learn what dispatchers need to know to get you help immediately.  Practice using the phone in the fire safety house and talk to an actual live person.

Jump Castles

Mr. Giggles
will be providing our jump castles this year.  He will be providing at least two jump castles for your enjoyment.  Work off that excess energy!

JIFD Extrication Team

Picture
JIFD's Extrication team led by Captain Jimmy Harder will be on hand demonstrating how a typical extrication would occur in the event of a motor vehicle accident.  This team will use what the public calls the "Jaws of Life" to pull off the doors and roof of a car to show how they would go about removing a patient that is trapped inside.  They are highly trained, as are all JIFD members.

St. Johns Fire District
Fire Extinguisher Training Tool

Picture
Photo is representative only.
St. Johns Fire District will be using a digital fire extinguisher training tool to educate you on the proper way to use a fire extinguisher.  This tool will assist in determining whether your actions put the fire out or spread it.  Come on out and try it!  You might be surprised what you learn!

The roller derby team Lowcountry High Rollers will be on hand this year again.  They will be rolling over the entire Expo scene and selling raffle tickets for the James Island Fire Alliance.  Welcome Back Ladies!

Mary will be here too with her new pink look!

Picture
Mary is a 1987 Spartan fire engine that was donated by the James Island Public Service District’s Fire Department to Pink Heals Guardians of The Ribbon.  The organization is a group of firefighters that tour the country in pink fire trucks signed by cancer survivors to raise cancer awareness and inspire communities to set up cancer relief funds.  This donated engine is named Mary in honor of Commissioner Eugene Platt’s wife who lost her battle to cancer in 2003.
